Performance Analysis of the OpenCL Environment on Mobile Platforms

Abstract: Today’s smartphones have more and more features that so far were only assigned to personal computers. Every year these devices are composed of better and more efficient components. Everything indicates that modern smartphones are replacing ordinary computers in various activities. High computing power is required for tasks such as image processing, speech recognition and object detection. This paper analyses the performance of the OpenCL (Open Compute Language) environment on mobile devices, which is a library dedicated to high-speed parallel computing. This paper examines how smartphones can access a library that, as it turned out, is not officially supported on the Android platform, and briefly describes the evaluated library. As a part of the study, this API (Application Programming Interface) was tested in the context of the achieved computing power, memory flow rate, speed of matrix multiplication and the possibility of processing the image from the camera in real-time. The obtained results were presented in graphical format, described and commented. We also provide an insight on applications that use this API for teaching deep neural networks, image processing, etc.

Title:

Quality of Cryptocurrency Mining on Previous Generation NVIDIA GTX GPUs

Abstract: Currently, there is a lot of previous generation NVIDIA GTX graphical processing units (GPUs) available on the market, which were ousted from by next-gen RTX units. Due to this fact, numerous fully-operational devices remain underused, which are available at an affordable price. First, this paper presents an analysis of the cryptocurrency market. Next, in this context, the results of research on the performance of NVIDIA graphics cards with dedicated software as a cryptocurrency mining platform. The research included three hardware platforms: GTX 480 x1, GTX 480 x2 and GTX 760 x1, tested under four cryptocurrencies, namely: Bitcoin, Litecoin, Monero and Ethereum. The custom-build test bench included power consumption as well as the efficiency of mining various digital currencies. Obtained results can aid any investigator interested in designing his own stand as well as configuring the environment.

Title:

Study on AR Application Efficiency of Selected iOS and Android OS Mobile Devices

Abstract: Currently, the number of scenarios for using AR (Augmented Reality) tools grows every year. Yet, there are still some open performance issues associated with this technology, related with the efficiency of the mobile device itself, including build-in components or the operation system. The purpose of this study was to investigate available augmented reality engines for mobile platforms. First, a review of current graphics and AR engines was conducted, based on which measurement aspects were selected taking into consideration the device performance. Next, we have performed a series of research studies, including different 3-dimensional AR modes and scenarios, both with and without a tag. The research was carried out using 4 mobile devices, with 3 of them running Android OS and 1 powered by iOS (with 2 different AR libraries). The performed tests and obtained results can aid any interested individual when choosing the right mobile device, as well as configuring the AR environment, for various UX (User Experiences).

Title:

The Concept of Application of the Wroclaw Taxonomy for QoS Assessment in Mobile Networks

Abstract: Measurement and analysis of the QoS/QoE parameters of the 5G network are of great importance for telecommunications operators, telecommunications market regulators, and end users of networks. The assessment of the preparation of the network infrastructure and cellular systems for the provision of 5G services has become particularly important. METIS II project defined the functional requirements for each of the five service use case scenarios. Benchmark measurements of cellular networks operating in the same area using drive tests make it possible to estimate the key performance indicators (KPI) value for every use case scenario. They also provide data to calculate each use case’s aggregated values and thus compare the network in terms of readiness for 5G services. The paper aims to present the concept of using the Wroclaw Taxonomy method to assess the QoS of the network and to determine an aggregated measure characterizing the mobile network for readiness for 5G services.

Title:

Drive Test-based Correlation Assessment of QoS Parameters for Exemplary Measurements Scenario in Suburban Environment

Abstract: The development of mobile networks is directly related to developing the telecommunications services market. Introducing new services requires adjusting methods of quality of service (QoS) assessment and management. QoS control measurements in mobile networks are a standard practice carried out by specialized companies for mobile network operators and regulators of the telecommunications market. In this paper, we analyze a selected measurement scenario for a suburban environment in which QoS was evaluated for video transmission from the YouTube service. The Systemics-PAB Group company carried out the measurements for the Polish regulator, the Office of Electronic Communications. The obtained measurement results are the basis for the correlation analysis between the QoS parameters. The analysis results show a strong relationship between the selected parameters, which can be used in modeling and simulation studies.
